The Power of Online Communities of Practice
This is part of my research for my final Masters paper this year, 2014, and involves investigating the power of well-structured and developed online communities of practice and the role they have to play in creating and sustaining teachers' professional learning.
I DON'T GIVE HOMEWORK ANYMORE...
On April 10 EduIgniteRotovegas was held. An EduIgnite event is an opportunity for educators to get together and share their practice and develop their PLNs, (Professional Learning Networks). It is also a social opportunity for educators to share their passions and interests in general.
EduIgnite evenings happen in over 100 cities globally.
If you'd like to find out more or join in an event, please go to Emerging Leaders EduIgnite.
For those of us presenting virtually, we used Google Hangouts - I can absolutely recommend these as a way of sharing professional learning. The recordings are available immediately too.
This presentation was also given at the RSCON5 - Reform Symposium Conference - in July of 2014. This was an online global conference and I can highly recommend visiting the web page and viewing some of the recordings. Some of the most prominent and valuable educators in the world were involved in this. I would also recommend viewing some of the previous years' recordings - they are always so valuable and have been an important part of my learning over the years.

This was also part of an assignment for my Masters degree and involved taking two Web 2.0 tools and analyzing them in depth for their benefits in education. When viewing, please bear in mind that this presentation was given in 2011 and since then both Blogger and ScoopIt have become quite different tools with many more amazing features.
